The virtual exam environment is a Linux gaol environment created per student user during exams which gives them an isolated, secure environment which contains the necessary files and programs, and which has minimal networking access, used during formal CSE exams.
It runs on lab computers and VLAB. Because it works with VLAB it allows CSE exams to be conducted in non-CSE labs using simple VNC clients. Some UNSW SOE computers have additional support allowing the computer itself to be locked down and only allow VNC to VLAB, thus preventing the students from opening, say, local web browsers.
